Mortal Shell II has eight permanent Shells. Five are found in Fainweald and three in Mammon. Harros is a ninth body used in the prologue, but the story removes him before the permanent roster opens. To keep a discovered Shell, interact with its remains and complete the first memory sequence.
Fast answer: Tiel and Proxima are the two practical opening choices. Their locations are revealed as you leave Marrow Keep, and Tiel is the quickest early detour on the Widow's Overlook route. See the Shell tier list before spending heavily on Bond upgrades.

How Shell unlocking works
- Reach the remains or complete the objective tied to that warrior.
- Interact with the body and finish its first playable memory.
- Return to Zhirelle, the Shellkeeper in Marrow Keep, to spend Glimpses on Bond levels.
- Use higher Bond levels to open the later perk tiers for that specific Shell.
When a Shell breaks, the Harbinger is forced out of it. Landing enough melee hits can let you reclaim the body, so a broken Shell is not always the end of the attempt.
Which Shell should you get first?
Easiest introduction
Proxima
Her early location and damage mitigation make her a forgiving first Shell while you learn enemy timing.
Durable target
Eredrim
Plan for the Citadel of Penance when you want a heavier Shell built around durability and Break damage.
