Tiel
Cloaking, mobility and critical/poison pressure give him answers in both exploration and boss fights.
For most players, Tiel and Smert are the strongest all-purpose Shells. Proxima is the easiest opening recommendation, while Eredrim is the safer option once the Citadel route is available. This list values low setup cost, boss consistency, crowd control and how early a Shell can influence a run.
| Tier | Shells | Why they land here |
|---|---|---|
| S | Tiel, Smert | They create safe attack windows with stealth or time control and remain useful across bosses and route clearing. |
| A | Eredrim, Proxima, Genessa | Strong, versatile kits: durability and Break, an easy early toolkit, or clone-based pressure. |
| B | Sariel, Lazlo | High value in the right fight, but each pays a larger execution, timing or late-unlock cost. |
| C | Gragu | Heavy single-target payoff with slower setup and less comfortable crowd control. |

She is available early and brings passive mitigation, crowd control and a straightforward pull-and-punish loop.
A large safety margin, strong Break damage and Riposte support reward players who prefer trading blows.
Miracle stops time and creates an attack window even when the enemy pattern normally offers none.
Tiel can bypass or open encounters from cloak, then lean on critical and poison interactions. Smert reaches the same goal differently: Miracle stops time, while his permanent Fight Stance supports stagger and health recovery. Both reduce the number of moments where the enemy controls the fight.
Eredrim turns durability and Break damage into a stable frontline, but his best momentum still depends on using Ripostes and maintaining Slaughterer stacks. Proxima is easier to understand early: mitigation, a pull and lightning crowd control make her immediately useful. Genessa can pressure safely through clones, but needs consistent Resolve generation before the kit reaches full speed.
Sariel's Pain system rewards clean play and punishes mistakes sharply. Lazlo is an excellent armored route-clearer but arrives late and gives up some boss efficiency. Gragu can produce strong single-target damage, yet his charge conditions and crowd weakness make him less universal than the rest of the roster.

The ranking synthesizes launch-week comparisons rather than copying one list. The strongest agreement is that Tiel is an elite early pick; sources differ on whether Smert or Eredrim belongs beside him. We checked a launch-build eight-Shell ranking, GamesRadar's Shell guide, the official eight-Shell description and current player-guide demand. That disagreement is why roles are explained instead of presenting the order as objective fact.
