Mortal Shell 2 Monolith Boss Guide

The Monolith is a late story boss in the Unfound Path. Its one real weakness is the exposed fleshy center that opens and closes during the fight — all your damage windows live inside those openings. The strategy in one line: dodge, don't parry, stay close, punish the open center, and dodge through the phase-2 laser. The kill pays out 65,511 Gloom, a Monolith Fragment and the Praise him! trophy.

Before you go: the Unfound Path gate requires 168 Ova — the turn-in is the Gloom Siphon room at Marrow Keep. Our beacon list shows which beacons pay the most Ova (the ones after the six major bosses, at 26 each), and the gloom farm guide covers the reload exploits if you want the payout without the grind.

Both phases, step by step

PHASE 1

Read the openings, punish the center

The Monolith repeatedly opens and closes the fleshy center of its body. Attacks are slow but animated awkwardly, and the side-rolling attack is noticeably faster than everything else — the two things that actually hit players mid-fight. Attack only while the center is exposed; the opening animation is one of the safest windows to move in and deal damage. Do not overcommit once it closes.

PHASE 2

The sweeping laser

In phase 2 the boss gains a powerful laser attack that sweeps across the arena. Dodge through it at the right moment instead of trying to outrun it. Staying close to the boss remains the safer overall position — point-blank, much of the laser tracking stops threatening you.

The cheese: hug its side

The community cheese is deliberately brainless: rush the boss, stand right next to his side, and wail on him without bothering to dodge. Build Resolve to max and spend it from there. Staying point-blank breaks most of the laser tracking that makes mid-range dangerous. If you use the Slayer Seal item to trivialize the fight, remember the trade-off reported by players and our own farming verification: equipping the Slayer Seal disables achievements on that save — pick it up, but think twice before equipping.

A parry-based variant exists for confident players — landing critical parries with a fast Shell such as Tiel (see the Shell tier list) deletes big chunks of its health bar, but the awkward animations make this the high-skill route, not the recommended one.

Monolith FAQ

Where is the Monolith in Mortal Shell 2?
In the Unfound Path region, a late-game area whose gate requires you to have collected 168 Ova — the Ova turn-in is the Gloom Siphon room at Marrow Keep. Start from the Obsidian Vault beacon and follow the path past it deeper into the area to reach the arena.
What is the Monolith's weakness?
Its exposed fleshy center — the knot. The boss repeatedly opens and closes this center; it only takes real damage while open, so the entire fight is about recognizing the opening animation, punishing it, and backing off before it closes.
Should I parry the Monolith?
No — dodge instead. The boss's slow-but-awkward animations make parry timing hard to read, and its side-rolling attack comes out faster than the rest of its moveset. Dodging through the phase-2 laser also works better than trying to outrun it.
Is there a Monolith cheese?
The popular one: rush in, stand right next to the boss's side, and just keep attacking without bothering to dodge, building Resolve to max and spending it from there. Staying point-blank also negates much of the laser tracking.
What does the Monolith drop?
65,511 Gloom and one Monolith Fragment, and it unlocks the Praise him! trophy. The Gloom payout alone makes this one of the most rewarding kills in the game.
